The main objective of the state boards of nursing in assessing health care practitioners like the nurse assistants is to protect and ensure the public that all the health care workers are qualified and competent according to the standards set by the government. According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the board of nursing protects the public by:
- Enforcing the nurse practice act and nurse licensure
- Accrediting or approving nurse education programs in schools and universities
- Developing practice standards
- Developing policies, administrative rules and regulations
- Taking action against the licenses of those nurses who have exhibited unsafe nursing practice
Now, to help aspiring certified nurse assistants, a non-profit organization called the National Council of State Boards of Nursing or NCSBN provides complete information about the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) in 25 different states, though, only 23 state links from their website is functional.
If you are going to click a link like the state of Alabama, you will be redirected to a page where you can find precise information regarding nurse aide testing in Alabama. You can find a link to a downloadable pdf document like the nurse aide candidate handbook, application form, regional test sites and test schedule, practice exam and Spanish skills listing under their testing services.
Their candidate handbook provides personal assessment and a complete guide on how to perform your duties and the skills expected from a certified nurse assistant according to the standards or the procedure set by your state government. They also include instructions whenever you need to retake the exam or express your grievances.
You can also find the whole year schedule of each test site from the regional test sites and test schedule link.
What I like the best about them is their nurse aide written practice test in pdf format. The practice test includes questions, answer sheet, and answer key to check your standing. The questions may not appear in the actual examination, but that would be a great help for you to pass the nurse assistant examination.
